YBUL conducts research and studies, including several feasibility studies, studies on rural energy provision, renewable energy, energy efficiency development and CDM related studies.

In the past, YBUL conducted, among others, the following studies:

Feasibility studies

  • Feasibility Study for Timor-Leste, conducted in 2004:Community Empowerment and clean energy study. This study aimed to assess market demand in Timor-Leste and the willingness and capability of local farmers to cultivate snow peas and other high-value crops.Financed by the agricultural division of USAID.
  • CDM Feasibility Study on Municipal Solid Waste Power Plant Project, conducted from August 2004 to October 2004:A feasibility study on municipal solid waste power plant project in Sidoarjo (east Java), commissioned by Pacific Consultants International.
  • Feasibility study on high quality fuelisation of waste biomass and advanced utilization project in Indonesia, conducted from August 2005 to February 2006:Conducting a stakeholder meeting as part of feasibility study on high quality fuelisation of waste biomass and advanced utilization project, at palm oil plantation and cement industry in West Sumatra, commissioned by Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy-Industries Co.
  • Feasibility Study on Biogas Ovens for Fair Trade Producers of Wisnu as a CO2 Compensation, conducted from April 2008 to May 2008: Project of he Hivos Climate Fund: Conducting feasibility study of substitution of existing fuel (fire wood and natural gas) with biogas on the oven/furnace of Fair Trade Producers of Wisnu in three ceramic/earth ware industries located in Yogyakarta, as a Co2 compensation project, referring to rules of CDM.

CDM Related studies

  • Preparation Draft Policy on utilization of renewable energy and energy conservation, conducted from August 2003 to December 2003:This study involves the analysis of the tax system related to activities that utilize renewable energy and energy conservation and drafting policy on renewable energy and energy conservation utilization by using a top-down approach for placement of renewable energy. The study was commissioned by the Directorate General Electricity and Energy Utilization.

  • Monitoring & Evaluating the South South North Project in Indonesia, from March 2002 to December 2008:This project involves monitoring and evaluating the SSN and project owner of mitigation or adaptation projects in Indone sia and was conducted for HELIO International.
  • Capacity Building for the CDM in Indonesia, from October 2003 to March 2008, in collaboration with IGES:Project involved organizing capacity building on Clean Development Mechanism to increase the awareness and capacity of businesses on CDM schemes and procedures. Additionally, it involved assisting IGES in effective implementation of CDM by identifying CDM project ideas in preparation for PDD (Project Design Documents).
  • Research on CDM implementation, conducted from December 2005 to February 2006, commissioned by Pacific Consultants Co. Ltd.with the aim of conducting research on CDM implementation in Indonesia with the objective to identify the CDM decision making process and key players within and outside the government.
  • CDM Capacity Building for Financial Institutions, commissioned by the World Bank, conducted in June2006.Alternative energy and Environmental Projects.This CDM project involved conducting the preparation for and development of Project Design Documents (PDD) for PT. Cabot Indonesia, commissioned by Pt. Cabot Indonesia
  • Preparing Clean Energy Projects for CDM, conducted from August 2007 to April 2008:This project involved the provision of overall assistance to Indonesian Government in the preparation for the 13th Meeting of Conference of Parties (COP 13) to the UNFCCC and the 3rd Meeting of Parties (MOP 3) to the Kyoto Protocol in Bali on 3 to 14 December 2007. YBUL provided technical support in the development of potential CDM projects from the portfolio of projects in Indonesia of the Asian Development Bank.

Other Studies

  • Development of Rural Electrification Strategy for Indonesia, conducted from November 2004 to January 2005 commissioned by the World Bank.This study involved assessing general economic data for different regions, especially as it pertains to living standard, current energy utilization, potential future demand and income generating activities, Report study on Rural Energy Access for Remote Area.
  • Study on Biofuels Sustainability Data and Analysis, conducted from April 2009 to May 2009 forWinrock International Institute for Agriculture.Provision of and comment on relevant data required for Indonesia case study onbio fuels.
  • Renewable Energy Study, from January 2010 to March 2010, commissioned by Advanced Submarine Networks Pte.Ltd.
