Why we changed our logo... Print

YBUL has been undergoing a significant change in its fundamentals, and keep perfecting the overall organizational dimensions.  We therefore are in the opinion that our logo should be able to reflect this important change.

The organization presently has more freedom in working with other than energy sectors, yet is highly relevant to renewable energy development.  For example, in the forestry sector: while we are building a pico-hydro generator as a means for providing electricity, we have to maintain the upper water catchment areas which provide water flow that is used for the pico-hydro.  The concept of payment for environmental services then should apply.  Another example is agriculture sector.  Many farmers are dependent on the products’ selling price level, however, post harvest treatments are normally lacking.  Renewable energy - based appropriate technology could assist farmers in improving the products’ quality, e.g. solar dryer for paddy, pico-hydro electricity for drying products and rice milling, etc.

Another YBUL’s new approach is building networks with relevant partners, as stated in its mission.  We believe that working through networking is indeed strengthening the collaborative efforts in the program implementation.  YBUL is also building a pool of experts to collaborate with; whom we respectfully call “associates”.

The new strategy YBUL is implementing starts with determining five strategic programs related to our mission:

1) developing community-based rural electrification generated from renewable energy resources;

2) promoting community empowerment through implementation of livelihood related programs;

3) implementing the micro financing scheme to support renewable energy development;

4) strengthening implementation of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) schemes; and

5) establishing pilot programs on community-based green energy development.  These thematic programs then be used as guidance to expand collaboration with international as well as national partners.

YBUL is leaving its previously known entity as a “consultant” on renewable energy, and moving toward a builder, initiator, and coordinator of development programs related to the above mentioned strategic programs.

With these new fundamental changes, YBUL is proudly present our new logo which reflects the followings:

  • The orange circle resembles sun, a perpetuate symbol of energy,
  • Two pieces of leaves reflect earth and its environment, especially plants, the most significant producer in food chain which contains living energy for other beings,
  • Both sun and earth become an entity which symbiotically provides energy for life,
  • The new logo is open, not boxed, which shows the dynamics of the organization and its nature to openly collaborate with other partners in providing renewable energy for the wellness of human beings.

SERASI, Empowerment Through Services Print

Empowerment Through Services

On 23 February 2010, YBUL entered a contract with SERASI program, funded by USAID/Indonesia, on a project called “Strengthening Community Development Initiatives in Bener Meriah”, Aceh Tengah.  The primary objective of the project is: community-led, environmentally sensitive livelihoods and vocational opportunities in Bener Meriah.  Together with selected local community members, YBUL will implement three main activities:

Waste Composting Print

Municipal Waste Composting, a Great Opportunity

It started almost one and a half years ago when YBUL and partners initiated a series of presentation to selected local governments about municipal waste composting program.  Approximately nine (9) local governments plus one (1) land and housing developer have been approached.  YBUL offers an environmentally friendly technology to convert municipal wastes into good quality of compost and non-organic brickets as low-calorie combustible materials.

Involvement in Agriculture Print

Why Agriculture?

Since its conception in 1993, YBUL has been promoting development of renewable energy as its primary focus area.  During the last two years, YBUL has been expanding this mandate to other relevant sectors, e.g. forestry through implementation of the integrated environmental services programs, and agriculture through improving appropriate technology for post harvest processing.
